about the comic

Memoria is the story of myself, told through a memories, visions and dreams; as I travel through a fantasy world in my mind visiting the odd characters that live there. But when a new and entirely unknown character begins haunting my footsteps, the line between reality and fantasy starts to grow increasingly indistinct.

Memoria contains minor foul language, strange imagery, and a multitude of oddball characters.

Update schedule pending.

How often does Memoria update? Eh.. not a lot. I’m currently an art student in university, which means my free time is down to nothing—what little I have to put toward comic making usually puts out sub-par results. I’d rather update with something I can be proud of, or not at all. Hence the severe lack of pages. However, during the summer months, breaks, etc; I usually update on a much more consistent schedule, around once a week. One day I’d like to be able to do that full time.

What do you use to make your comic? I use several different types of artists pens, varying sizes, india ink, bristol board paper, prismacolor markers, pencils, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0, and anything and everyhing else (ie: watercolor, paint, newspapers, etc). As a rule, I largely use traditional media to create Memoria. I like the feel of it better, and I think it matches the story's feel too.

sketchWhen did you start writing Memoria? I started writing the actual comic, as it is now/script format, over a year ago. The actual stories themselves; of each individual character, background details on the settings and cultures, etc... those have been in the workings forever. The earliest stuff I've found in old journals and sketchbooks dates back to around 2003, 2004. There are some wonderfully awful things in those sketchbooks. Right: First sketch of myself, 'in costume' so to speak. I did this when I was around 13 or 14. Wonderfully awful.

How much of the story happened in your real life? That's a tricky question. Without giving anything away, the majority of things are actually real. The dreams and memory segments are real events that occured; and many of the characters and settings are heavily based on other real experiences. If you're curious about a certain element of the story though, please feel free to email me or leave a comment about it.
